Instructions: To create the cardboard base of your book, cut three 8" x 8" squares of medium weight chipboard. I used King Arthur cake flour boxes for the other 3 pages. To create the pocket pages, cut the top and bottom flaps off the box. Flatten the box, and use a guillotine cutter to cut the box open along the side seam so that the whole box can be opened flat. Cut the box so that you get two 6 1/4" x 8" panels with a creased flap attached. The creased sides of the box can be folded up and stapled to form pockets. (See photo in my blog post here.) You will need three of these pocket pages, each measuring 6 1/4" x 8" once the pocket is folded. These pages will have the pocket positioned on the right hand side of the page.
Cut 6 sheets of designer paper to 8" square. Ink the edges with Vintage Photo Ink and glue onto the fronts and backs of the medium weight chipboard. Line the pocket pages with 6 pieces of designer paper cut to 6" x 8". The pocket flap will measure 1 3/4" x 8". Die cut tags using the Luggage and Tags die. Use dark brown, kraft, dark teal and light teal cardstock. You will need about 20 tags. Die cut the photo mats from the same cardstock. I used 15 photo mats cut with the largest die from HCD 750. Die cut at least 6 sets of gears from cardstock, cutting 2 sets from brown, 2 from dark teal, 2 from light teal. Also cut leaves and license plates and 2 sets of chain. Die cut the tags from the cut apart page of the book as well as various bits of tickets and artwork. Die cut the suitcase from the Luggage and Tags die from red designer paper. Assemble and set aside.
Once you have done all the die cutting, stamp and decorate the tags. Then you can begin to assemble the book as shown. Ink the chipboard balloon and key with Distress inks. Paint with Antiqued Bronze Distress Stain and then use Viva Décor Stamp paint to achieve the finish you desire. Gently heat the chipboard balloon, and while warm, carefully bend the edges to create a rounded finish. Coat the balloon with Clear Rock Candy Crackle paint and let dry. Throughout the book, use card fronts as photo frames, add stamped and heat embossed tags to pockets, and add layered gear "flowers" and stamped artwork.
For the inside back cover, create an accordion photo display as follows: Cut two sheets of 8 1/2" x 11" paper to 7" x 11". Score on the long side every five inches, then join the two pieces together at the 1" overlap. Accordion fold so that the top layer is a valley fold, the next fold is a mountain fold and so on. Glue the back of the final fold to the prepared book page, leaving the right hand edge open to form a pocket. Cover all the pages of this pull out section with card fronts from the designer paper collection. For the smaller card fronts, create pockets by leaving the top edge open and insert tags in the pockets. Punch a hole in the top and bottom of each page and bind with O rings.
