Aster flower shaping tutorial

Hey friend!

Do you feel stuck in a creative rut and use the same flower shaping technique over and over, or maybe your flowers look nothing like the ones you see online. Join us as we create beautiful Wild Aster flowers that are perfect for all your fall projects!

Our Crafters Say:

"I am so excited. Can't wait to make the flowers. I'm planning on making the fold out cards with this collection. Best part is that I purchased the fold outs during the birthday celebration so I would be ready." -Sandy Cowman

"Love Heartfelt Creations products and very easy to go through the check-out process. Heartfelt Creations products are good quality and I very much like the various designs." -Carol D

Let's get crafting together!

Step 1: Stamp the Asters onto Deluxe Flower Shaping paper using Magenta Hue archival ink.

Step 2: Colour the centres using Saffron archival ink and colour the outer petals with Magenta Hue using the daubers.

Step 3: Die cut the flowers using the coordinating Wid Aster die and colour the edge of the petals with Deep Purple archival ink using the daubers.

Top Tip: Add colour lightly until you reach the desired shade. You can always add more colour, but you can't take it away once it's on your project.

Step 4: Watercolour a pale wash of  watercolour paints to reverse side of the petals. This step is optional!

Step 5: Use a ball tool from the Deluxe Flower Shaping kit to shape the petals. Place the tool at the outer edge of the petal, press down with an even pressure and roll the ball tool to the base of the petal with one stroke.

Step 6: Turn the flowers face up and using a ball tool, make circles in the centre of the flower to curl the petals into an arch shape. Adhere 2 sets of same size petals together using the dries clear glue, offsetting the petals to create a fuller flower.

Step 7: Stamp the leaves and the filler sprays using a green ink. Colour the image using daubers and the same green ink, use the Deep Purple archival ink to lightly shade the buds at the end of the filler sprays. Die cut, spritz with water and shape lightly whilst damp. When fully dry, add dries clear glue to the ends of the filler sprays, cover in Baby's Breath transparent glitter, remove excess and set aside.

Step 8: To create a quick and easy card, cut  paper from the Wild Aster collection to slightly smaller than the 6” x 8” card base and adhere using dries clear adhesive.

Die cut 2 Starry Night Decorative Die borders in a darker paper and adhere to the top and bottom of the card base. Stamp the sentiment onto white card using the Deep Purple ink, cover with clear embossing powder, remove excess and heat to set. Die cut using the 3rd smallest Eyelet Diamond Die.

Die cut the next size diamond die from the darker paper, adhere this to the card base in the position shown and add the sentiment on top using foam pads.

Step 9: Position the flowers and leaves onto the card base and secure using hot glue. Once the glue has cooled, squeeze Sugared Almond Crystal Drops into the centre of each.

Top Tip: Use a heat gun to melt the hot glue strings.

Step 10: Cover the centre of the flowers with Orange Juice prills and allow to dry before removing excess.

Step 11: Add the glittered filler sprays using hot glue.
