Let's get crafting!
Directions:
Step 1: To start with the construction of shadow box, choose 2 scenic papers of the same print. Cut one piece measuring 5" by 5".
From the same paper, fussy cut the small bird out as shown. Also fussy cut the birdhouse and a pair of birds sitting on the fence. Glue the scenic paper inside the shadow box.
Step 2: With the help of foam dots, layer the birdhouse and the birds in their respective places as shown. Using the Dries Clear adhesive and glitter the small detailing in the picture and the background.
Step 3: Score all the crease lines on the scoreboard, and add red tacky tape on the outer flaps of the shadow box. Peel off the releasing tape one by one and close the shadow box.
Step 4: Choose the paper from the paper collection and cut a piece measuring 5 1/4" by 5 1/4". Using eyeballing technique, tape down the rounded square die from the Cut Mat Create 2A die and run through the die cutting machine to create the front window of the shadow box.
Top Tip: Take an extra paper of 1" by 4" to avoid any error while covering the window. It's better to cut extra paper than to keep hiding the errors that crafters generally get while aligning the die.
Top Tip: Always take care while taping down the die with tape. The tape should hang out on the negative area that you don't want to use in the project. This way you can avoid tearing the paper that you want to use. Or you can stick and pull the tape on your arm couple of times to make it less tacky.
Another great way to cut the aperture is to lay the open shadowbox in place over the paper and trace the opening. Lay the die over the tracing and diecut.
Step 5: Distress the edges of the shadow box and window lightly with Coffee Archival Ink and add glitter.
Step 6: Cut 2 long strips of bright pink pattern paper measuring 1/2" by 12" and a small piece of scrap white strip approximately measuring 1" by 1/2". Cover the scrap strip with red tacky tape or glue. Place one long strip in the center of the scrap strip as shown, covering half the scrap strip and align another one beside the next one. This way you will get a long strip of 24" by 1/2" with NO joining showing. Start gluing one edge of the strip to cover the bottom of the shadow box and keep gluing until all the four sides are covered.
Top Tip: This way of joining papers will show a minimum of joints and you can easily use a scrap piece of papers for your projects. Of course, you can distress and ink the edges to hide the joints perfectly.
Top Tip: Covering all the four sides of the shadow box with one single strip will give neat and sharp corners to the shadow box and make it sturdier.
Step 7: Using Coffee Archival Ink, stamp a Festive Gate from the Celebrate the Season Collection and die cut with the coordinating die. Cut 2 extra Festive Gates, without stamping.
Step 8: Adhere all the 3 gates together, keeping the stamped one on the top. Ink the Festive Gate lightly with Coffee Archival ink with the help of Stack and Store Daubers. Also, cut the stacked and inked Festive Gate as shown.
Top Tip: Stacking up 2-3 extra die cuts under the main stamped die cut image makes the hanging dies sturdier. It really adds extra life to the project.
Step 9: Then layer the cut pieces of the gate on either side of the shadow box as shown.
Step 10: Next put the ready shadow box aside and work on the card base. The ready top fold card measures 6" by 8". For that, cut a smooth white cardstock measuring 12" by 8" Score at 6" on the longer side and crease. Also, cut 2 tags from the scrap pieces of pattern paper, 2 mat layers from white cardstock and 2 eyelets from the golden mirror cardstock using the Ticket and Tags Die. Mat the tags on white cardstock. Add golden eyelets using an adhesive that dries clear.
Step 11: The first card mat is created using gold mirror cardstock and measures 5 1/2" by 7 1/2". The second mat is from the designer paper collection and measures 1/8" smaller on all the four sides of the golden mat. Glue both the mats together and further layer them on the white card base.
Top Tip: Besides creating card bases and card mats the Eyelet Rectangle & Basics Die is perfect to use it to cut extra fancy paper while matting or creating layers. Cut them and keep them for the future projects.
Here is the picture of the card base, ready with its first layers.
Step 12: With the help of a pencil, mark the position of the shadow box and the placing of tags.
Step 13: Add strong double-sided tape where needed, leaving the tag placement. Remove the releasing tape and adhere the shadow box on the card.
Step 14: Stamp multiple images of first largest and the second largest flower from Wildwood Floral Collection, using Archival Magenta Hue and Archival Ink - Coffee. Also cut them using the coordinating dies.
Step 15: For Pink flowers, ink the flower petals using Archival Vibrant Fuchsia and then highlight the edges using archival ink Cactus Flower. For Orange flowers Ink the flower petals using Venetian Orange and highlight the edges using Orange Blossom.
TOP TIP: The centers are colored using Leaf Green. Don't forget to color the back of the flowers using same colors.
Step 16: Mist the flower petals with water and shape them using Deluxe Flower Shaping Kit.
Step 17: Glue one large and one small petal together. Prick a hole in the flower center and thread in the Rock Candy Stamens with the help of thin wire and secure them from the back with hot glue.
Step 18: Stamp the 2 sets of both the large leafy vines from Leafy Accents Cling Stamp Set with Olive Green Archival Ink, cut them using the coordinating dies and color them using Leaf Green and Olive Green archival ink.
Step 19: Lay them in the 3D Leafy Accents Mold as shown and mist a little with water. Close the mold and run it through die cutting machine.
Step 20: Once shaped and dried, highlight the edges using Venetian Orange Archival ink.
Step 21: Vellum Lilacs - Cut 3 small pieces of vellum and paint 2 pieces using Wilted Violet and Seedless Preserves Distress oxides. Wait for a little and wipe off the extras. Keep one separate for some white Lilacs.
Top Tip: Paint the vellum more randomly with some light and some dark patches. This will give you natural and different shades of Lilacs together in one go.
Step 22: Stamp the Lush Lilac flowers using white pigment ink and sprinkle with white heat embossing powder. Dust extra powder away.
Step 23: Heat set the vellum using a heating tool.
Step 24: Cut the flowers with the coordinating die. Look at those itty bitty shaded Lilacs...Just Awesome!!!
Step 25: Shape the Lilacs using the longest tool from the Groove Golf Tool Set. Simply put the petal of Lilacs on the narrow end of the needle tool and pinch between your fingers. Once shaped, press the centers with the stylus and add prills using an adhesive that dries clear.
Top Tip: Shaping 2-3 Lilacs together will really make your work easier and be less time consuming. Always try to keep an extra stock ready of these Lilacs in different shades. These are one of my best filler flowers and I use them very often on my projects.
Step 26: Two pairs of birds are cut from the Lush Lilac paper collection using Songs of Spring Die from Singing In the Rain Collection.
Also cut extra 2 pairs of plain die cuts to stack under the printed birds to make them a little sturdier. Shape the birds with hands and glue them as shown.
Step 27: Sentiment chosen is from the For My Friend Sentiments Cling Stamp Set and is stamped using StaZon Pink ink and hand cut into a banner. Slightly distress the edges using Brushed Corduroy Distress Ink.
TOP TIP: Use the sentiments from the new Elegant Tags and Sentiments release to change the occasion the card can be used for!
Step 28: Once all the elements are ready, assemble the card as shown. Here are a few close-ups with all the details.
