Now that you have your crafting supplies, let's begin
I have always loved these lanterns. They are so ornate and pretty. I’ve been wanting to make one for ages, so what better chance, than to use the new Sparkling Poinsettia collection. I started with a metal candle stick that I found at a thrift store. A timber candle stick would work just as well.
Step 1) Clean any dust from the candle stick, then coat with black gesso. Set aside to dry.
Step 2) Cut two pieces of balsa wood, one the width of the top of the candle stick, and one at least twice the length. Paint in black gesso, and allow to dry. Adhere to the top of the candle stick, to create a base for the lantern.
Step 3) Paint a chipboard flourish in black gesso, and adhere to the top of the long balsa wood piece.
Step 7) Stamp 3 candle images onto white cardstock. Colour with Copic markers, then fussy cut. Create a small tab using acetate, and adhere to the inside of the lantern.
Step 8) Stamp and die cut a series of Poinsettia blossoms and leaves from patterned paper. Use a stylus to shape each petal, then layer in pairs to create the flowers. Create floral clusters at the base of the candlestick, on the bottom right of the journal tag, at the end of the balsa wood, on the front left of the lantern and on the top right of the lid.
Step 9) Stamp two different flourish stamps onto white cardstock and colour with Copic markers. Fussy cut, and add to the floral clusters across the project.
Step 10) Tie organza ribbon around the base of the candle stick, the bottom of the lantern and the end of the balsa wood.
Step 11) Adhere white flower soft to the edges of the windows, and along some of the horizontal lines of the project. Sprinkle some fairy glitter along with it.
Step 12) Paint some glitter gel onto the petals of the flowers, and adhere some prills to the flower centres.
