How to create a rose: flowershaping tutorial for a spectacular card
Hello! How are you?
This is your step by step tutorial on how to create a gorgeous 3 dimensional paper crafted rose for your creations.
You can also learn this EZ technique via video, located at the end of this post.
Artsy samples:
Yes, you can do this too!
Products needed for this tutorial:
Additional products:
-Ink daubers (or any ink applicators)
-Hot glue gun & sticks - or your preferred glue
1. First let's stamp, cut out and color these babies.
To get started, stamp the Vintage Floret flowers onto paper with a brown chalk ink. Link for all of these products are located above. For gorgeous flower shaping flower shaping, use 60 pound (200 gsm) cardstock or Heartfelt Creations paper.
Stamp the florets in Brown Colorbox Chalk Ink, cut out the stamps with the matching dies and sponge the edges in pink pastel Colorbox ink.
Mmm lovely.
To make this flower, use 3 different sizes of flower layers- 2 of each.
2. Give each layer dimension with your stylus on the back side by going in a circular motion until it has a nice textured, curved shape. This creates the necessary floral texture for gorgeous 3D.
If you don't have a stylus, have a look at the Flowershaping kit. It contains everything needed to contain gorgeous 3D beauty in paper crafts. It comes in a strong, sturdy, easy-organizable case with 2 mats, 11 interchangeable nibs and includes a paper piercer for all the brads and embellishments.
3. Next step: flip the rose petal over and press the stylus down in the center. Shape it in a circular motion. This motion gives the rose petals the beautiful, necessary shape to build the flower. Repeat this to each one.
4. Let's build the rosebud first ;)
5. To get started, press down in the center of the flowers on the backside. This adds dimension to the petals.
6. Put glue on two petals. We love the hot glue gun for this technique.
7. Shape those two petals with your fingertips and fingernails. ;)
8. Hold it in your hands until the glue is dried. The rosebud is forming :D
9. Next, put glue on 2 more petals- the ones that are side by side. Do 2 at a time because hot glue dries very quickly.
10. Shape those petals around the other petals with your hands. Hold in place until dried.
11. Now let's glue the last petal on to create the rosebud.
12. After gluing, press it onto the flower center. The vintage floret petals are intricate and long and give you all the ability needed to create wonderful roses that you can make vintage, life like, mixed media, or whatever your heart needs craft out.
Set this bud aside to dry. We're not done yet ;)
13. For the second layer, let's use the very same size. We repeat what we did in the previous steps: simply press down in the middle on the backside to create that necessary floral texture.
14. Take the hot glue and put it on two petals and a bit on the base. Add just enough glue to form the flower before it dries. Reminder: start with 2 petals ;)
15. Bring up the petals around the already formed rose. Make sure the layers are offset from each other! And check to make sure the center is still circular. We're getting there....good job following along so far!!! There are many steps to creating the necessary flower but it's worth it ;)
Glue two more petals, press them onto the rosebedue then glue the last petal on to form that bud!
16. MMM...you can glue this bud onto the leaf die from the Vintage Floret set to form a minituare rose bud. That product is located at the beginning of this entry if you need/want it (is there a difference?) ;)
In this tutorial we're going to continue building a bigger rose. Keep on going to learn how...
17. Get the next size flower and press it down a little bit more in the center with your stylus to create that floral texture. Put some glue on each petal (yes, I said each) towards the bottom of the petal.
18. Align the bud on top of the rose. But first check to make sure the petals are offset from each other to create a gorgeous necessary flower shaped look. Pull each petals up and into the center and hold them in place until the glue has dried. This creates a dimensional, bulbuous rose.
19. Add more dimension and texture to the flower by folding the ends of the petals backwards with your hands. Dare you to be rough with it a bit ;) Craft your art out.
20. The next flower layer is the same size as the last one. Let's use the same process: put glue on each petal and in the center.
21. Offset the petals from the formed rose with the ones on the bottom layer.
Flowershaping and crafting therapy, bring on the good times...
23. When you do two same-sized layers, it creates a fulle, more bodacious rose that is stunning and simply adorable.
Shape the flower petals with your fingers.
24. Pull the flower ends back and wrinkle them. Add some texture in there. Remember this isn't about the perfect craft, this is about creating an expression of you.
One thing I've learned is that there are no mistakes on the creative journey- only discoveries and unexpected beauty.
25. Repeat the wrinkling process on each petal.
26. Let's finish this thing. Grab the biggest size flower- it's the second to the largest foral from the Vintage Floret stamp and die set. Use as many different sizes as you desire. The more sizes you choose, the larger and more bodacious your rose will be.
27. To create this tutorial we're using 3 different sized flowers. Simply add some glue to each of the petals and the base as done before. Place the built flower onto the center and offset each petals and pull them around the formed rose. "Squoosh" it together with your hands ;)
28. Take a smaller nib from your stylus kit (the ones from our Deluxe kit are actually a hot pink) and shape some of those petals backwards to make it look like a real life rose.
Btw- use any size nib you want. To create the texture we're doing, you want to use the 4-6 mm nib. (A step by step guide for the sizes of the nibs is located on the back of your Flower Shaping Kit). PS- Flower shaping kits started shipping 2 days ago on Wednesday so if you pre ordered yours get ready to give your mailman a hug for crafty joy. ;)
29. This is the last petal we're adding create the flower. Just add glue to the bottom like the others.
Remember: rotate and offset the petals for a bodacious bloom ;)
