Outside the Normal Box of Creativity

Hello Everyone,
On Saturday I decided to try out a new recipe for Molasses Cookies. I hadn’t baked with this recipe in a long time. My taste buds were literally salivating over these cookies and my friend Jadyn and I were really anticipating the outcome. We subbed some ingredients and did our own creative twist to it... We got a flop.

I was very disappointed. I wanted them to look like Pinterest pictures:) Those flops of cookies reminded me how very similar this is to the creative journey: sometimes you make projects you are really proud of and others times its like “OMG- this goes into the trash!”

This week’s blog is filled with new inspiration that explores “outside the normal box of creativity” and it really encourages you to think outside your normal go to. Try something new — try something different. Like my cookies it might be a flop, but you may also create something beautiful that you might otherwise not have created. We are also doing a blog hop with Really Reasonable Ribbon today, so make sure to visit their blog for some more creative inspiration:)

Post a comment on the blog and let me know which project you like best!. Much love, Emma Lou

Project Instructions:

Other products: White Card Stock, Reasonable Ribbon Copper Forest, Say it in Pearls, 3D Foam Dots, Distressed Inks and die cutting machine.

Nuts And Bolts Of LifeInstructions: This card is essentially a base with 2 flaps attached to it. Start by cutting 2 pieces of card stock 6" x 7" and a third piece 6" x 5" in size. Score on the the 6" x 7" pieces so you have a 6" x 6" square with a 1" flap and score the 6" x 5" so you have a 5" x 5" piece also with a 1" flap. Attach flap of the larger piece to the right of the base and the flap of the smaller piece to the left of the base. You can make the pieces smaller or larger as desired. Once your card base is assembled, distress all the edges and cover with paper from the All Geared Up Paper Collection. Stamp and distress the All Geared Up Cogs and Gears PreCut Set. I actually traced around the shape of the stamp set to achieve that funky shape for the right panel of the card. For the flower, I used the gear dies that came with the All Geared Up Die set. Once you have cut them out, pinch the ends together slightly and curve up to form the petals. Layer a few together and you have the perfect All Geared Up flower.

Thoroughly cover the entire tag with Versamark Ink and cover with clear embossing powder. Heat to set the powder. Let it cool and repeat this step. This will give the tag a faux metal appearance. Brush the top of the tag with the Chandelier Glimmer Glam and let dry.

Die cut 3 sets of the gears from white cardstock, and two from pink cardstock. Die cut 2 leaves from green glitter cardstock. Shape and stack the gears. Add the silver buttons, sewing on with gold thread. Tap the center of each button with Antique Linen Distress Ink and set aside.

Paint the dress form with Antique Linen Distress Paint. Let it dry. Paint with Chandelier Glimmer Glam. When dry, add buttons as shown. Smoosh a little Worn Lipstick Distress Ink onto a non-stick craft sheet. Spray Iridescent Gold mist into this area, and run 3 feet of seam binding through the puddle to create custom seam binding. Scrunch the ribbon as you are drying it with the heat gun. Wrap ribbon around the base of the tag, and then create a shabby bow to go on top.

Cut a journaling tag from the paper collection and ink the edges with Worn Lipstick Distress Ink. Glue onto the card, as shown. Cut the birthday tag from the collection and glue down as shown. Place the gear "doily" die under the hoop skirt of the dress form and glue down. Glue the dress form on top, as shown. Add the flowers, pearls and filled silver frame. Top the tag with more of the custom dyed seam binding.

Great work by the DT. The Inspire Album is my favorite.

Patricia Bowman Said...
I love all of these really "out of the box" projects, but I think the one I love the most is the one with the flowers and gears cut out of aluminum tape and painted to look like patina. Oooh lala!

I have the cut mat create dies, and I would like to know if all the rectangles on 1A and 1B mat with each other. The one I am having trouble with is 1A skinny rectangle and 1B skinny rectangle.
Heartfelt Creations
The small skinny blocks do not mat together and are just used as individual label or sentiment blocks or for cutting in to other mats. There are some examples of that on these layouts: http://www.heartfeltcreations.us/gallery.php?project=6379&product=3297 and http://www.heartfeltcreations.us/gallery.php?project=6142&product=3297 Please email us at support@heartfeltcreations.us if you have further questions.
